UN Promotes Insects as Food: Normal Version

A new UN report is urging people to eat more insects to fight world hunger and protect the environment.
According to the report, beetles, caterpillars and other insects are nutritious and high in protein and easier to raise than livestock such as cattle. They also produce far less pollution and greenhouse gases than livestock. Insects could be especially important for feeding the many undernourished children around the world. Over two billion people, mostly in Asia, Africa and Latin America, already include some insects in their diet.
The report notes “consumer disgust” is a major barrier in Western countries. However, the food industry could help by creating new recipes and offering insects in restaurants.
